EPIPHANY
Solo show at the College of Creative Studies in Santa Barbara, 2024
“Collecting comics, drawings, paintings and posters, Epiphany assembles records of visions and revelations that playfully hint at prophecy. Resisting prosaic explanations, Jenkins’ work lures the viewer with cryptic images and symbols, suggesting messages beyond language. Surreal comics emerge from a practice of solitary improvisation, exploring strange worlds and poetic word-image pairings. Paintings and drawings reveal landscapes teeming with plants, disrupted by odd ruins and traces of mysterious human activity. Printed illustrations and posters function like neon omens—flashes of fluorescent ink, made for public display and collected in the gallery. Delivering prompts for meditation via tightly crafted linework, intense colors, and sensuous, organic forms, Epiphany asks us to think about how far we are willing to savor the unknown and what it means to hand over authorship to an enigmatic other.”
