An **unofficial** poster for Jan Švankmajer‘s film Alice (1988) (original title: Něco z Alenky), made for a
Švankmajer fan very close to my heart. I thought it would be interesting to incorporate aesthetics into the poster from worlds completely alien to Švankmajer‘s sensibility--namely, design idioms that have evolved around electronic music--which can be seen in show posters, album covers, etc. etc. The cleanliness and geometric premeditation that characterize those visual materials (and indeed
electronic music itself) seem antithetical to the organic, handmade grotesqueness of Švankmajer‘s stopmotion world. In this poster, the former influenced the bold, abstracted letterforms, while the latter influenced the ornate border, spidery title and drawing in the center.
